The Golden Era: The Heartbreak of Dark Screens
West Virginia culture has always been deeply rooted in community, family, and good homegrown fun. For many who grew up in the Kanawha Valley from the late 1980s through the mid 2000s, part of that social heartbeat lived inside our local malls.
The local arcade was a special kind of gathering place. It was the thrill of heavy brass tokens in your pocket, the glow of bright neon lights, the sounds of machines competing for your attention, and the excitement of crowded tournament lines. For a generation growing up in the valley, those memories were made at places like Aladdin's Castle, Power Play, and Tilt at the Kanawha Mall, along with Cyberstation at the Charleston Town Center.
But by the mid 2000s, an incredible era of local culture had quietly faded. One by one, the machines were unplugged, the doors were locked, and those familiar gathering places disappeared. The local arcade did not simply fade from the malls. It left a noticeable gap in the capital city area's entertainment landscape that would remain for years.

The In-Between:
The Great Retail Shift
In the years that followed, the Kanawha Valley changed. Shopping, dining, entertainment, and development became increasingly spread across the region, with activity shifting toward areas like Southridge and, more recently, new developments such as Park Place in South Charleston.
As the places we shopped, ate, and spent our free time became more spread out, our phones became modern lifelines. They keep us connected to friends and family, capture our memories, help us navigate the valley, and handle countless parts of everyday life.
At the same time, the dedicated arcade spaces many of us remembered were largely gone. The way the valley gathered had changed. Instead of relying on one central entertainment destination, people increasingly spent their time across different restaurants, bars, shopping areas, attractions, and neighboring communities.
That changing landscape helped shape a different kind of vision.

Enter Arcade Ventures
Today, we are starting a new chapter. Our goal is not to recreate the past exactly as it was, but to bring some of that same energy, interaction, convenience, and entertainment directly into the places where people already gather.
Arcade Ventures LLC was founded right here in Charleston as a homegrown, independent West Virginia company with a simple mission: bring engaging entertainment and useful modern amenities into the local businesses and venues our communities already enjoy.
We are beginning that mission with a dual focus strategy, building a local network of smart amenities and interactive entertainment throughout the Kanawha Valley.
That starts with the everyday utility of ChargerGoGo portable phone charging stations and the eye catching, interactive experience of Sweet Robo automated cotton candy machines.
Our approach is simple: bring the experience to the places people already are.
By partnering with local venues, Arcade Ventures can add useful amenities and memorable entertainment without asking the community to travel to one centralized destination. It is a modern evolution of the same idea that inspired us in the first place: giving people another reason to stay, interact, enjoy themselves, and connect with the places around them.
And we are just getting started.
