The Golden Era: The Heartbreak of Dark Screens
West Virginia culture has always been deeply rooted in community, family, and good, homegrown fun. In the late 1980s and through mid 2000s, that social heartbeat lived inside our local malls. For anyone growing up in the Kanawha Valley, the local arcade was a sacred space. It was the thrill of heavy brass tokens in your pocket, the bright neon lights, and the sound of crowded tournament lines at the Kanawha Mall’s Aladdin’s Castle, Power Play, and Tilt or the Charleston Town Center’s Cyberstation.
But by the mid-2000s, an incredible era of local culture quietly vanished. One by one, the machines were unplugged, the doors were locked, and our community hubs were walled off. The local neighborhood arcades didn't just close down—they left an absolute, heartbreaking void in the capital city area that lasted for decades.

The In-Between:
The Great Retail Shift
Following those arcade closures, the entire Kanawha Valley landscape changed. Retail and community spaces moved away from our traditional downtown hubs as business shifted heavily toward the Southridge area, leaving the once-thriving Charleston Town Center nearly quiet. Over the next two decades, the region's development continued to migrate outward, eventually pulling across city lines into South Charleston's new Park Place plaza.
As our gather spot shifted, our cell phones naturally became our modern lifelines for staying in touch with friends, taking family photos, and navigating the valley. But because our dedicated physical arcade hubs were gone, the valley completely lost its central, social places to gather. We became a community constantly on the move between separate cities and shopping plazas, but we were left without those shared spaces that used to bring us together.

Enter Arcade Ventures
Today, we are starting the journey to bring that missing piece back.
Arcade Ventures LLC was founded right here in Charleston as a homegrown, independent West Virginia company built on a single mission: to bring authentic local entertainment back to the wild and wonderful communities that miss it most.
Because our valley is spread out and constantly moving between local hotspots and neighboring city districts, we are launching our mission step-by-step with a mobile-first strategy. We are beginning today by placing a localized network of 10 phone charging kiosks inside local venues, ensuring our community stays safely powered and connected while out in the valley.

Our ultimate milestone is reestablishing permanent, full scale arcade experiences for the Kanawha Valley community, a space filled once again with bright lights, the sounds of gameplay, and families and friends gathered together, bringing that same social heartbeat back home for good.
